BABIES AND TODDLERS
As miraculous as new life is, being born is equally miraculous! - a new sentient being preparing to come into this world, a unique soul coming into being.
As testament to this miracle, for the baby’s head to pass along the birth canal the bones of a baby’s skull have to bend and overlap! Further, the little one has to twist and complete a 90-degree rotation so it can gain exit. While this process is potentially traumatising, it is also very stimulating for the baby as these forces prepare the little one for its entry into the world. Most babies, though not all, are to some degree traumatised yet within a few days most stresses are rectified as the baby’s self-healing forces come into play – an example of which is suckling and crying which allow the baby’s head to re-expand. Nevertheless, parents may observe that their baby just doesn’t ‘look right’, is not feeding well, their excessive crying, sleeping difficulties or just doesn’t seem to be thriving.
A craniosacral therapist can check for any sign of traumatisation such as difficulty maintaining eye contact, the excessive crying which very often indicates their need to share their suffering, sensitivity to touch, the baby’s more oriented side due to their position in the womb or birth difficulties.
In all this myriad of cases Craniosacral Biodynamic treatment can bring an almost immediate relief of symptoms. To make it easier on the little one it is also possible to treat a baby while they are breast-feeding as closeness to Mum is of vital importance.
Toddlers can sometimes be quite challenging in that a craniosacral treatment often needs to be conducted whilst following them around the room and while they are playing! Nevertheless, toddlers like babies can respond quickly to treatment.
Working with babies, toddlers and children is one of the most rewarding aspects of Craniosacral Biodynamic practice. I believe strongly that because many problems with difficult births and early trauma are clearly treatable, a lot of suffering in later life can be avoided.
